Won the First of Many:
Mengniu Aust-Asia Model Dairy Farm’s Large-scale
Integrated Project of Electric Power with Biogas
June 12, 2011
Mengniu Aust-Asia Model Dairy Farm’s integrated
project of electric power with biogas (Hohhot, 2007)
created the first of many in China, reported by the
authority. It is the first large-scale integrated biogas
project that runs successfully; it is the only one
project that its electricity can be hooked up the grid
from testing; it is the only one biogas plant that its
gas production rate and generated electrical energy are
up to the designed parameters; its normal operation time
of electricity switched into State Grid is the longest;
electrical energy sold to the national grid is the
This project firstly adopted the conditions of Contract
for EPC/Turnkey Projects under FIDIC Conditions to
finish the feasibility study report, design,
construction and commission in China’s biogas
engineering field. Under this condition, the
construction period and cost was saved, as well as the
potential risks was eliminated. In addition, the EPC/
Turnkey way was greatly acclaimed by Prof. Dr.-habit
Bernhard Raninger from
and other experts at home and
Bio-Energy-Expo 2011(Qingdao, China)
The 2nd International
Bio-Energy-Expo and China Animal Husbandry & Feed
Industry Expo (CAHE) were held grandly by the China
Animal Agriculture Association (CAAA), German
Agricultural Society (DLG) and China Biogas Society
(CBS) at Qingdao International Convention Center, China,
from 18 to 20 May 2011. The Biogas Designer Training
and the International Conference on Biogas
Industrailisation in China were also held at the same
time. A lot of people visited this grand exhibition, and
gave a great reaction on China’s established large and
medium-sized biogas plants.
As one of biogas plants exhibitors of international
pavilion, our company showed thoroughly the successful
demonstration biogas plant-the Integrated Project of
Electric Power Generator with biogas for Mengniu
Aust-Asia Model Dairy Farm (Hohhot, 2007), designed and
constructed under the EPC conditions, at this
exhibition. This project was
given rave view by most of participants.
At this exhibition, we gave
our company’s philosophy - only construct waste
treatment projects and do not build up rubbish projects,
which was got favourable view by most of participants.
An authority said that we never did construct those
cheap and unnormal working biogas plants, but did
construct long running plants in China.

The World’s Largest Biogas-generating Plant for
Livestock and Poultry Started Running Regularly in Inner
Huhuhot, January 18 ,2008 reported by
Xinhua correspondent Ren Huibin
On January 18th, the world’s largest biogas-generating
plant for livestock and poultry has started to running
regularly in Inner Mongolia. It is invested by Inner
Mongolia Mengniu Dairy (Group) Co., Ltd., short for
Mengniu below. Its total building investment is 45
million Yuan, and the total installed capacity of
Mengniu owns 5 large-scale dairy farms, altogether tens
of thousands of milk cow. In order to solve the problem
of cow dung and sewage, as well as reusing waste water,
Mengniu invest 45 million Yuan for the cow
dung-biogas-generating project with a total
installation capacity of
1.36 MW after times of
The new-finished biogas-generating plant will treat the
wastes from Mengniu Aust-Asia Dairy Farm with a total
number of 10,000 cows. The
waste include 280 tons of
cow dung, 54 tons of cow urine, and 360 tons of cowshed
-flushing water. Through this project, it can produce
200,000 tons of organic fertilizers, and provide
10,000MWh electricity power to State Grid every year.
Through this biogas-generating project, the cow dung and
sewage in the farm can be discharged harmlessly, the heat from generating can be used for
daily warming in the farm, and all the recycled water
can be used for greening and grass-irrigating.
Meanwhile, a well-circulated economy-system integrating
grass-planting, cow-feeding and producing is formed.
These are the most obvious advantage of Mengniu

we have designed and constructed Liangcheng Haigao Dairy
Farm. It has a total number of 7,000 milk cows, and
covers an area of 600MU, i.e. 40 Acers. It is located in
Liangcheng County, Jining, Inner Mongolia. It has come
into use from November
Biogas Project was finished and started running in
December 2008. Now it has began to supply electricity power
It has a total number of 3,000 milk cows.
January 18th 2008, Mengniu Biogas Project began to
run regularly and formally, reported by CCTV
News Broadcast the same day. Bseides, many medias also
reported the news in detail, such as Xinhua News Agency, Economy Daily, Peasants
Daily, China Environment Daily, Gov.cn, Chinaview.cn, Peopledaily.com, Sohu.com,
Sina.com, China Radio Net, China Economic Net and so on.
June 2007, we begun to plan and construct Jiangyuan
Biogas Project. The dairy farm has 3,000 milk cows, and
locates in Ordos. It is expected that it will be
finished in June 2008. This project is based on the
FIDIC Conditions of the "Engineering, Procurement,
Construction (EPC) / Turnkey EPC" Contract.
April 2006 to October 2007, we have finished the design
and construction of Mengniu Biogas Project. This project
is based on the conditions of Contract for EPC/Turnkey
Projects under FIDIC Conditions. Now this project runs well. In 2007, it
was selected as
one of the Ten Significant Ecological Technology
Recommended by China. Also in December 2007, it has been selected as Capacity Building for the Rapid
Commercialization of Renewable Energy in China, as well
as Demonstration Biogas Plant with Combined Heat and
Power Generation in Industrial Scale, by both United
Nations Development Programme and Global Environment
Facility. In 2007, it was selected as Demonstration
Biogas Project with Power Generation in Industrial
Scale, by the Ministry of Agriculture, P.R. China.
In August 2006, we compiled the report on feasibility study
of Jiangyuan Biogas Project.
In March 2006, we compiled the
report on feasibility study of Mengniu Biogas Project.
January 2006, we assisted Mengniu holding a meeting on
the demonstration of Mengniu Biogas Project.
2005, we finished the preliminary scheme for Large-scale
Integrated Projects of
Electric Power Generator with
Biogas for Mengniu Aust-Asia Model Dairy Farm, short for
Mengniu Biogas Project.
2005, we planned and constructed Grass-irrigating
Project for Mengniu Aust-Asia Model Dairy Farm. It
covers an area of 7,000 MU, i.e. 467Acers.
2004, we participated in the design and construction
of Mengniu Aust-Asia Model Dairy Farm, a 10,000-cow dairy
farm in Hohhot.
